Editorial for Kerianne Nelson Flora

At the height of lockdown in the spring, when we were all cooped up inside (not much different than now sadly…), I watched as all of my planned weddings and shoots disappear almost over night. Thrown in with all those cancellations and postponements were the creative and editorial shoots that had been planned or were in the works some amazing vendors. Creatively it was a dark time. All I wanted was to be able to create but without the ability to have any subjects in front of my camera I was at a loss. Enter Kerianne of Kerianne Nelson Flora.

I’ve had the joy of knowing Kerianne for years now and absolutely revel at any chance to photograph her amazing creations. She reached out during this creative rut and asked if I’d like to photograph a floral arrangement for her. Absolutely! It was the perfect creative escape in the middle of so much stress and unknown.

In the “studio” of my attic I set up her beautiful floral arrangement and got to work. After a month or so with my camera tucked away in the case and unsure of what the rest of 2020 would bring, photographing these florals brought me creative life. It didn’t matter what stress was swirling around me or the uncertainty that Covid would bring, I was able to be creative, work with my colleagues and found a way to do it socially distanced, but together.
